Our Lanterns at Millennium Cities in Kenya

In Bungoma, Kenya, our partner LitWorld’s Girls Clubs work with the Millennium Cities Initiative. Teacher Rose Mureka reports that when Club members received solar lanterns, “the girls expressed their joy through song and dance. The smoky kerosene lamps that made them suffer are going to end up in dustbins. The lanterns came in handy as the girls were preparing for exams — one emerged with top marks for the school. To them, these lamps are magical, a savior, a precious jewel—Thank you!”

Philippines Update

We just got some great updates from our partner Project Pearls, which include pictures of their students using our lanterns—here is a picture of a girl, Alexandra, who can finally read after dark! We gave them to their students in the LitClub, a chapter of the worldwide LitWorld community that helps children collaborate, communicate, and develop personally through the power of words. Melissa, the head of Pearls, says that there was a definite improvement in students’ “grades because they can now complete their homework at night!”
